The phasolec (Callista chione), a member of the family Veneridae, is a filter-feeding organism that lives in the upper part of the sediment where it finds shelter. After a period when these mollusks were considered of little commercial interest, now demand, especially in the restaurant sector, has grown significantly, so much so that regulatory action has been enacted to limit the maximum quantities that can be caught.
