Mendicants are chocolate pucks on which dried fruits with or without shells are stuck. They are sweets of French origin that were traditionally made of chocolate with only raisins, hazelnuts, dried figs and almonds on top, where the colors of these four fruits were meant to indicate the four mendicant monastic orders, the Dominicans, Augustinians, Franciscans and Carmelites, respectively; hence their name, which means the beggars in French.
