Amaro del Carso triumphs in Berlin: gold medal and title of Amaro of the Year 2025
Local craftsmanship excellence conquers the international scene: Amaro del Carso won the gold medal with 95 points and the prestigious individual award of Amaro of the Year 2025 at the Berlin International Spirits Competition. Each year, the prestigious Berlin International Spirits Competition brings together an international jury of world-renowned experts, including master distillers, sommeliers, bartenders and specialised journalists, who are called upon to evaluate the best global productions in a rigorous selection that rewards only absolute excellence.
Amaro del Carso is distinguished by a unique taste profile that tells of our territory. The nose opens with intense balsamic notes, thanks to the juniper alcohol that infuses an immediate freshness. On the palate, a refined balance of savouriness and complexity emerges, the result of the combination of rosemary, thyme, savory and other herbs. The slight addition of seawater and glasswort lends an unmistakable marine persistence, enhancing the Mediterranean character of this bitter.
Amaro del Carso was born with a simple idea: to take those who savour it for a walk in the forests of the Karst, amidst the typical scents and flavours of our territory, kissed by the sea breeze,’ says Andriana Mesaric, founder of the brand. "We wanted to capture the essence of the Karst by using only selected Mediterranean herbs. Our recipe is both traditional and innovative: at the forefront is juniper, which is not simply infused in pure alcohol, but macerated for 12 hours in a copper still, giving our bitter a distinctive character. We have chosen to go against the current trends, which focus on predominantly citrus notes, in order to offer a classic bitter, where medicinal herbs are the protagonists. Any citrus can be added in the glass to enhance the flavour, without covering it.
The recognition obtained in Berlin confirms the artisanal quality of Amaro del Carso and consolidates its role among the products of excellence on the international scene. ‘We are extremely happy about this first gold medal and the Amaro of the Year 2025 award,’ Mesaric concludes. ‘It is a confirmation that our work and vision is appreciated beyond local borders.’
A result that not only celebrates the quality of a product, but also brings the name of Karst among the excellences of the sector, with a bitter that surprises with every sip.
